We aim to provide a balanced and broadly based curriculum that:
• promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at school and in society
• prepares pupils at school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
A new, revised National Curriculum was introduced in September 2000 outlining what should be taught in each subject. It stresses the importance of teaching children how and what to learn through the development of their thinking skills, rather than just memorising facts. It promotes pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life.
What is to be taught is organised into:
The Core Subjects:
English (including Literacy)
Mathematics (including Numeracy)
Science
The Foundation Subjects:
Information and Communication Technology, History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical Education, Design and Technology and Religious Education (each county has its own syllabus for this)
